About me
Alex is the Partner Engineering Manager for Responsible AI in Microsoft’s Core AI division. From 2020 to 2024, Alex served as Technical Director of Platform Data Science and Machine Learning at Airbnb, where he chaired the science track of the company-wide AI & ML Council. Alex earned his PhD. in Statistics from Stanford University in 2010 and went on to contribute to the Microsoft Analysis and Experimentation Team. Here, he made methodological and engineering improvements to their in-house experimentation platform, with work spanning causal inference, Bayesian optimization, reinforcement learning, AutoML, recommender systems, high-throughput distributed systems, and analytics infrastructure. Alex has co-authored many papers, including Metric Decomposition in A/B Tests and Statistical Challenges in Online Controlled Experiments: A Review of A/B Testing Methodology.
